Equality at Beam County Primary School

 

At Beam County Primary School, we welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010. The school’s general duties concerning equality are:

Beam County Primary School is committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout the school community. To achieve this, our Equality Objectives 2021 – 2026 are as follows:

 

  1. To ensure that the achievement of identified EAL groups is at the same levels or above that of their peers in school and nationally.
  2. To further develop the school’s role in promoting community cohesion-
  3. To ensure the school’s core values of ”Striving, Inspiration and Community are at the heart of our activities and that the curriculum reflects our inclusive ethos, which recognises diversity as a strength of the school.

Beam County aims to promote pupils’ spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development, emphasising equality and diversity and eradicating prejudicial incidents for pupils and staff. Aims to eradicate discrimination

 

Beam County Primary School believes that a greater level of success from pupils and staff can be achieved by realising the uniqueness of individuals. Creating a prejudice-free environment where individuals feel confident and at ease is a school commitment. This environment will be conducted by:

We are committed to having a balanced and fair curriculum. Our pupils should be exposed to ideas and concepts that may challenge their understanding to help ensure that pupils learn to become more accepting and inclusive of others. Challenging and controversial concepts will be delivered in a way that prevents discrimination and instead promotes inclusive attitudes.

 

Dealing with prejudice

 

Beam County Primary School does not tolerate any form of prejudice-related incident. Whether direct or indirect, we treat discrimination against all school members with the utmost severity. When an incident is reported, through a thorough reporting procedure, our school is devoted to ensuring appropriate action is taken and a resolution is put into place that is fair and firm.

Equality of opportunity and non-discrimination extends to the treatment of all school community members. All staff members are obliged to act according to the school’s various policies relating to equality.

We will guarantee that no redundancy results from direct or indirect prejudice. All disciplinary procedures are non-prejudicial, whether they result in warnings, dismissal, or any other disciplinary action.

Under the Equality Act, 2010 schools need to carry out accessibility planning for disabled pupils. Schools must implement accessibility plans which are aimed at:

 

  • increasing the extent to which disabled pupils can participate in the curriculum;
  • improving the physical environment of schools to enable disabled pupils to take better advantage of education, benefits, facilities, and services provided; and
  • improving the availability of accessible information to disabled pupils.

 

We have carefully considered and analysed the impact of our policies in regards to equality and the possible implications for pupils with protected characteristics, as part of our commitment to meet the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) requirement to have due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations.
