Art

Bow Arts Project

During the summer term, The Bow Arts Project conducted a series of workshops at Beam, designed explicitly for our Special Educational Needs (SEN) students. Damien Robinson, a deaf visual artist with expertise in digital printing, engaged and inspired the children to design, develop, and create exceptional works of art. The students worked collaboratively with Mr. Robinson, employing sensory light techniques to produce bold and vibrant images. These artworks have been transferred onto Dibond boards and are now prominently displayed throughout the school, including at the main entrance to the Apollo and Atlantis classrooms.

Shoe Design Project

Year 6 students engaged in a collaborative project with Hernan Guardamanga, an esteemed Argentinian shoe designer, to develop their own shoe designs utilizing exclusively recyclable materials. Mr. Guardamanga was introduced to the school through our partnership with the Bow Arts project. During his visit, he provided the students with insights into the origins and principles of shoe design, guiding them through the planning, development, and creation of their individual footwear.

Following the workshop, Mr. Guardamanga expressed his admiration for the students' full engagement and enthusiasm throughout the process. He also commended their exemplary behavior during each session, highlighting the positive learning environment fostered during the collaboration.

Japan Myths and Manga Art Trip

A group of art students from Beam recently visited the Young V&A museum to engage with the Myths and Manga exhibition. Japan plays a significant role in shaping some of the most innovative art and design globally, and this visit provided students with an opportunity to appreciate the diverse range of artistic expressions that Japan offers. The excursion also established a valuable link to the students' curriculum, particularly in relation to their studies of origami in Year 5 and Manga and Anime in Year 6.

The Joy of Art

If anyone thought Art wasn’t particularly their thing, I think they should look at these Reception children during a collaborative printing lesson in the summer term. All the children used their knowledge of mark making, colour mixing and pattern design to produce this amazing mural on the art room floor. They had a fabulous and incredibly messy time!

Welcome to Beam Arts & Culture Zone

At Beam, we offer a fun and exciting arts environment, where we strive to nurture children’s creativity, experimentation, and joys of artistic discovery.

It is no surprise that a great deal of energy is put into the arts by both our staff and children, from drawing to sculpture, animation to theatre production, choir to full-scale performances.

We believe that a high quality of arts education is extremely important and we want to share this with you.

So come inside the arts zone to explore some of what we get up to…But most of all take the opportunity to be creative, have some fun and enjoy a cool artistic experience.

Evidence shows that the arts and culture, to people and society, has a positive impact  on our economy, health and wellbeing, society and education.

Furthermore, the creative industries are the fastest growing sector in the UK economy, with the potential to unlock even more significant growth.  If we want to get our children ready for their future  careers,  we will need to recognise creative education and skills development as a foundation for growth.
